Tears Of Indra

ACTIVITY OF 6 NOVEMBER 2011

We were informed by the villagers that there was a problem with Tambon Khayai’s temple on the east bank, Wat Jom Ket. The Kathin ceremony of 6 November was initially planned to be sponsored by people of Bangkok, but due to the capital was flooded, they could not reach this area. Kathin is the most significant merit-making Buddhist festival of the year which comes at the end of the three-month rainy retreat. As Thot Kathin is part of the life of the village and villagers, we had to help.

We bought food, water and soft drinks for use by the villagers at the ceremony and we helped the temple out in order to cover the expenses for the organization. Many villagers still live on the temple premises. The temple takes care for the flood refugees from the eastern hamlets of Tambon Khayai. Helping out the temple was done in the name of all donors of “Nam Ta Phra In” or “Tears of Indra”; as it was Thot Kathin much merit is returned upon them on this occasion.

We still had twenty emergency packages, which we stocked at our home. A boat came pick up and shuttled the supplies to Wat Jom Ket at the other side of the river. We distributed the supplies as the villagers at the temple ran out of food. We did not take part at the ceremony itself as Pia had to return to Khlong 1.

Arriving at Khlong 1, she was informed that there were people without any food or water at Lam Luka, south of our area. Before leaving to Bang Pahan, we had completed 35 emergency packages with the rest of the supplies remaining in our apartment and at the family house. First the packages were loaded in the zodiac and boated to the highway exit. There Somchai’s jeep was loaded with the boat, 15 packages and packs of water; and Pia, Nung and Somchai went then delivering emergency supplies in Lam Luka (Soi 8). They returned at 17.30 Hr; another day bites the dust in Floodland.
