Tears Of Indra

BACK TO SCHOOL

On 30 November 2011 we visited the primary school of Tambon Khayai. It was the start of classes after the school had been flooded. Khayai has one primary school for the six hamlets of the sub-district. The school is located next to Wat Jom Ket on the east bank of the Lopburi River and was completely flooded until a few days ago. The premises become slowly dry and the children started the cleaning-up of their classes on Monday. There are close to 100 children subscribed at the school.

As the school has been damaged by the flood waters and many parents are at the moment out of a job, we supported the children at the start of the school with some items.

“Tears of Indra” offered a small lunch - a rice dish, fried bananas and coconut ice cream - to the children at noon. All food was bought locally in Tambon Khayai in order to sustain the local economy.

After the lunch we distributed school stationary to the children, including a small present (a money-box filled with sweets).

Stationary contained the following: 1 ruler, 6 pencils (red, blue, black), 1 pack color pencils, 2 erasers, 1 pencil sharpener and 1 pencil bag.

The doctor told us that there were 16 children, living in a more or less difficult home situation. We will follow up these children especially and have an interview with the parents or parent. As we observe that help is needed, we will undertake the necessary steps.

We ended our activity for that day around 1300 Hr.
