Flood Aftercare is an activity in which “Tears of Indra” provides help to the sick children, the very old and the disabled villagers of Tambon Khayai and vicinity; next to continue supporting the people in the same area who still are in need after the flooding. In coordination with the sub-district doctor we listed all the sick children, elderly and disabled persons.
On 14 December most of the sick and disabled in the sub-district were visited. Tears of Indra donated clothing, mattresses, rice, nutrition powder, diapers and other items the disabled requested.
On 17 December we visited about 40 flood victims and donated water glasses in a gift box and sweets.
On 19 December our visit to the poor and disabled continued.
On 24 December we helped out two people of Bang Duea and one of Nakhon Luang with a set of necessities: water container, blanket, towels, etc. We heard the story of a family with children living in a single floor house which was completely inundated and of which most of the household was destroyed. The woman used to sell daily crushed ice drinks at a school in Ayutthaya. All her kitchen gear she used to prepare the fruity ice drinks was destroyed by the floodwaters and she was now without income. The family knew we were helping out, but were reluctant to ask for help. So we invited them on Christmas morning and donated in the name of “Tears of Indra” a set of new kitchen gear, so that the lady could pick-up her former work again.
The other days, help was delivered in Wat Jom Ket area of Tambon Khayai, Tambom Suan Phrik, Tambon Wat Tum and Pa Mok area. “Tears of Indra” donated rice, sticky rice, chili, milk, Thai sweets and clothing to people in need.
Near Wat Jom Ket we helped out an 85-year old man living alone, who was still cut off from electricity and bought him three big candles.
Tears of Indra delivered 30 bags of rice to Wat Ton Satu, where on the first January a ceremony is held for the start of the New Year and items will be distributed to the poor.
The activities under Flood Aftercare closed down on 31 December 2011.
We will continue providing help to the sick, poor and disabled villagers of Tambon Khayai and vicinity under a new program named “
Under Garuda’s Wings”.
